ESIN- the European Small Islands Federation was set up in 2000 and represents 11 European small islands Federations from the North ( Aaland, Estonia, Finland and Sweden), West (Denmark Scotland, France and Ireland) and South ((Greece, Croatia, Italy).

It reaches out to a combined population of 450 000 on 150 000 islands.

ESIN is run by a voluntary board representing each federation with the support of our Ireland-bases secretary.

Our action is twofold: we aim to connect islanders through exchanges of experiences and good practice. Latterly we have focussed on entrepreneurship and island food labelling.

We also want to ensure better representation and understanding of our issues at EU level.

We have also been contributing our views for a strong Territorial Cohesion Policy post 2020 and working on the theme of SMART islands and Clean Energy for EU islands, currently working on sharing our local energy audit methodology.

We very much look forward to this opportunity to share what is happening in the European small islands and exchange with other rural communities through ERP.
