NRP Croatia

17 April 2015: The first Rural Parliament in Croatia took place at Beli Manastir 14 to 16 April 2015.

It brought together over 200 people from rural communities throughout Croatia, including small farmers, craftsmen, small enterprises, cooperative members, Local Action Groups and associations active in rural development. Also present were local, regional and national governments, plus guests from Slovenia, Czech Republic and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The event included field trips in the Baranja area, and two days of lively discussion, plus thematic field workshops at eight locations. Workshop themes included sustainable tourism, renewable energy, creative industries, information technology, the role of local communities in rural development, and much else. The Rural Parliament concluded with the adoption of a Declaration, which will go to decision-makers at national and local levels and will form part of Croatia’s message to the ERP 2015 Gathering in November. The organisers concluded that a Rural Parliament is an excellent way to debate the challenges facing rural areas, to present good practices, to motivate residents to be involved in shaping rural development policy, and to strengthen partnerships among all rural sectors.
