6 June 2015: Latvian President speaks at national Rural Parliament
Andris Bērziņš, President of Latvia, greeted over 400 people attending the opening of the second Latvian Rural Communities Parliament, held at Līgatńe 3 to 5 June.

They included 300 people from villages throughout Latvia, and 120 delegates from 30 countries attending the Development Forum, which was organised alongside the Rural Parliament in the context of the European Year for Development Cooperation and the Latvian Government’s Presidency of the European Union. The aim of the Rural Parliament was to draw attention to the active people who animate the life of rural areas, and to agree a forward-looking plan for the well-being of agriculture and rural life in Latvia. The conclusions of the Parliament will go forward into the work of the Latvian Rural Forum, which organised the main event, and will form part of Latvia’s contribution to the European Rural Parliament.
